What Is The Full Meaning Of JUPEB?

JUPEB which stands for Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board is an A’level program that allows candidates to gain direct entry (200 level) into specific Nigerian universities and some partner universities abroad. This prelim program lasts for one academic session of two semesters, at the end of which the candidate is awarded a certificate.

It is a national examination body approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria in December 2013. It was formally incorporated in April 2014 by a consortium of ten (10) partnering universities led by the University of Lagos.

HOW JUPEB Works

Aspiring Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board candidates are required to select any THREE (3) A’level Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board Subject Combination plus English Language identified with their preferred course of study in the university, be it Science, Art or Social Science Course.

Candidates would then be taught for the stipulated period at their respective study center and thereafter sit for the final examination. Upon completion of the program, successful candidates accordingly utilize their Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board certificate to secure admission into 200 level in any affiliated Nigeria tertiary institution.

What Is The Aim Of JUPEB?

The cardinal aim of JUPEB is to serve as an alternative to JAMB, which is a prerequisite requirement to get admitted into Nigerian universities. With JUPEB, you can gain admission to study any course of your choice in the aforementioned universities. Once you gain admission, you won’t start from 100 level but 200 level.

The objectives of JUPEB are;

To attract superior students to the university’s degree programs and reduce the high rate of dropouts from the university.
To facilitate Direct Entry admissions into various University courses globally by conducting credible examinations for candidates taught on a qualitative and well-balanced curriculum.
To ensure adequate preparation of eligible secondary school graduates for the university system.
To enhance analytical and independent learning abilities and promote the overall intellectual development of students.

What Are The Entry Requirements For JUPEB?

Just like every other program or exam, there are certain requirements that qualify an individual to apply. The entry requirements for enrollment are a minimum of five (5) credit passes in at least 5 subjects at O’level including English language and Mathematics at not over 2 sittings.

How To Appy For JUPEB

Candidates who meet the entry requirements can get a JUPEB application from any of the JUPEB-approved university centers or any of the affiliated universities. You can also apply through JUPEB official website. To register for JUPEB, all you need to do is;

Fill in your details on the form issued in order to generate a payment invoice and an invoice number.
Pay a non-refundable registration fee of fifteen thousand two hundred and fifty Naira.
Validate payment by clicking on Payment Validation.
Once payment is confirmed, click on the registration form to begin registration.
Lastly, print out the application slip and present it to the chosen study center for clearance.

What Fees Are To Be Paid To Complete A JUPEB Program?

The JUPEB program school fees differ from center to center, state to state. However, once you fill out and submit the JUPEB form, you will see the original fees for your desired JUPEB center.

Here’s an average breakdown of costs an applicant should expect are;

Clearance fee: ₦20,000
Tuition and examination fee: ₦140,000

How Long Does It Take To Complete A JUPEB Program?

JUPEB program lasts for a minimum of one academic session, which is made of two semesters that span 9-10 months.

What Qualifies One For JUPEB Certification?

To be eligible to take examinations leading to the award of JUPEB’s Direct Entry certificate, each candidate must register, sit for Examinations and satisfy the Board in three subjects and English. Each subject is fragmented into four courses to be taken, two per semester, by the candidate.

The results in all the courses will be collated at the end of the second semester to obtain the candidate’s grade in each of the four subjects. Each candidate is expected to take twelve (12) courses, six per semester, and a general studies course.

When Is JUPEB Examination Result Normally Released?

After the exams that take place in June, results are released in August. Once the result is out, they are released to the university centers and candidates are to collect their statement of results from their university centers. In the same vein, the university will also award a JUPEB certificate to you.
